On July 8th, 2024, The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing, in conjunction with the UNAIDS office in Beijing, hosted a reception for Ms. Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, together with African students in China. Other guests included the Ambassadors from Malawi, Kenya, and Nigeria and representatives from UN Agencies in China.
On 30th May 2024, HE Amb Oliver Wonekha met with Mr. Diao Chunhe, Executive Chairman of the Africa-China Alliance. The two distinguished leaders discussed matters of mutual interest between Uganda and China.
Students from various Universities in Uganda participated in the Huawei ICT completion 2023-2024. They received several awards, including the second Prize in Women in Tech, the First Prize in Network Track, and the overall Grand prize in Network Track. HE, Oliver Wonekha, the Ambassador, of Uganda to China, attended the award ceremony and awarded the grand prize to the Ugandan team.
On 20th May 2024, HE, Oliver Wonekha, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to China met with Dr. Dai Bin, president of China Tourism Academy in Beijing, also affiliated with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of China. The two leaders extensively discussed the promotion of Ugandan Tourism in China. Dr. Daibing will lead a delegation of 10 Tour companies to Uganda in August 2024 and will also attend the Forum on Tourism.
On 10 April, a technical term from the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries led by Hon Rose Kagenyi paid a courtesy call to the Uganda Embassy in Beijing. The team is in China under the Sout-South Cooperation Phase 3, which is designed to enhance cooperation between Uganda and China in the field of agriculture. This collaboration demonstrates a commitment to mutual learning and sharing of agricultural best practices between the two countries.
The Uganda Embassy in China staff members attending a 4 day capacity building training conducted by Human Resource Officials from the Ministry of Froeign Affairs. This training aims to enhance skills and knowledge, promoting professional growth and strengthening the Embassy's capabilities.
On 16th November 2023, Ugandan Ambassador to China, H.E Oliver Wonekha, attended the 2023 Silk Road Women's Forum convened under the theme “Pooling Women’s Strength for Belt and Road Cooperation” in Shaanxi, delivering an inspirational speech on women's empowerment and gender equality, strengthening relations with all countries, and highlighting Uganda's commitment to fostering international collaboration for a more inclusive future.
On October 25, 2023, Her Excellency Oliver Wonekha received a delegation from Busitema University led by Professor Paul Waako, Vice Chancellor of Busitema University and they discussed issues related to higher education, especially in the domains of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEM & A).
The Ugandan delegation attending the 16th Senior Officials meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) led by the Deputy Secretary to Treasury, Mr. Patrick Ocailap, arrived in Beijing this evening on 22 October 2022 and was received by the Uganda Ambassador to Beijing China Amb. Oliver Wonekha
On 18th Oct 2023, the delegation headed by the Executive Director of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) and CNOOC(U) paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to China. The delegation briefed the Ambassador about Uganda's oil sector. The Ambassador welcomed the delegation to the Embassy and briefed them about the work that the Embassy did and the continued interest of Chinese companies in investing in Uganda.
