Shanghai, China — 2026

The Uganda Embassy in Beijing made a bold and vibrant statement at HOTELEX Shanghai 2026 with a dedicated national booth themed “From the Source of the Nile to the Streets of Shanghai.” The showcase highlighted Uganda’s finest coffee, teas, and specialty dairy products, positioning the country as a rising premium supplier to the Chinese hospitality and retail markets.

This embassy-led initiative is designed to forge direct connections between Ugandan exporters and key Chinese buyers, including hospitality groups, hotel chains, distributors, and leading e-commerce platforms. It comes at a strategic moment ahead of the zero-tariff policy set to take effect in May 2026, which will significantly enhance the competitiveness of Ugandan agricultural exports in China.

Visitors to the Uganda booth experienced an immersive journey into the country’s rich agricultural heritage. Highlights included:

  • Live coffee cupping sessions, offering buyers a firsthand taste of Uganda’s world-class Arabica and Robusta varieties
  • A dedicated B2B trade desk, providing clear guidance on tariff-free import procedures and export partnerships
  • Cultural performances, bringing Uganda’s vibrant traditions and storytelling to life

Speaking during the showcase, H.E. Oliver Wonekha, Uganda’s Ambassador to China, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative:

“This platform allows Uganda to present not only the quality of our products, but the strength of our partnerships. We are positioning Uganda as a reliable, premium source for agricultural exports while deepening our commercial ties with China.”

Through this dynamic showcase, the Uganda Embassy positioned itself as a proactive commercial bridge, advancing a “Land-Linked” trade vision that connects Uganda’s producers directly to global markets through strategic partnerships.

“This initiative reflects Uganda’s commitment to moving beyond traditional trade models,” a representative at the booth added. “We are not just exporting products, we are building relationships, creating market access, and sharing the story behind every cup and every product.”

Uganda’s participation at HOTELEX Shanghai underscores its ambition to become a leading supplier of high-quality, sustainably produced agricultural goods while strengthening economic ties with China.
