Chinese Delegation Visits Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Strengthening Uganda–China Industrial Cooperation

A Chinese delegation yesterday evening paid a courtesy visit to the Kampala Industrial and Business Park (KIBP), where they were received by Mr. Adam Mutebi, China Desk Officer at the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).

Mr. Mutebi commended the Chinese community for its continued and valuable partnership with Uganda, highlighting its contribution to the country’s industrial growth across multiple sectors.

During the visit, Mr. Mutebi provided an overview of the Kampala Industrial and Business Park, describing it as Uganda’s largest government-owned industrial hub. The park spans approximately 2,200 acres and is organized into four estates: North, South A, South B, and South C.

He noted that the park currently hosts around 480 factories, with approximately 50% operational, 30% under construction, and the remainder in pre-start stages. Infrastructure development within the park is about 60% complete, with key facilities already in place, including road networks, power stations, a weighbridge, and a waste management plant.

The delegation was taken on a guided tour of the park and received briefings on the wide range of industries operating within the facility. These include plastics manufacturing, roofing materials, iron and steel production, textiles, oil and detergents, as well as fabrication and equipment manufacturing.

The visit underscored the strong and growing collaboration between Uganda and China in advancing industrialization and investment, with both sides expressing optimism for deeper engagement and expanded opportunities in the future.
